A huge kumbh (religious gathering) of Hindus is on the cards on February 11, 12 and 13, 2006. Named Shabrikumbh it promises to be an unprecedented assembly of awakened Hindus. The Kumbh will be the culmination of sustained efforts towards awakening the Hindus in general and the vanavasi Hindus in the Dang region of Gujarat in particular.

The Kumbh Mela is described as the largest congregation of the faithful. It is simply amazing that in the absence of any formal invitation or announcement, millions and millions of pilgrims congregate every three years at the appointed date and have a holy dip to cleanse their sins. The original aim of the Kumbh included defence of the Hindu society and deliberate upon the challenges facing it. Even today, the sadhus carry their traditional weapons to the Kumbh. Unfortunately, the social significance of the Kumbh has been largely forgotten with time. The Shabarikumbh is a step towards rekindling the social significance of the Kumbh Mela.

This Vanavasi Daang district with its thick forest is 200 Km from Nashik and situated at the foot of Saputara hills range. Solemnity of Social harmony and awareness emerges through Yajna and bath at the sacred Shabari Kumbh of the Vanawasis in Dang

The Panchkundi Yajna commenced at 7-00 clock in the morning today which presented a unique picture of social harmony and unity. Enthusiastic couples as well wishers of the Vanavasis or the so called backward tribes from Gujarat, Mahasrashtra, Jharkhand etc. participated in it with lot of enthusiasm and gaity. Present here were Shri Kalubhai Kuwabhai and his wife Smt. Shantibahen from the near by village of Kudkash, Shri Ahokbhai Rathor from Navsari, Shri Sopan Vani of Malegaon (Maharashtra), Shri Gumansigh Patel, Shri Manu Ganpat Kohli from Raigarh, Maharashtra, Shri Rama Pawar and Shri Ram Vilas Purao and Shri Shivpanth Sinha from Jharkhand. Venerable priesthood of the sacred Yajna was religiously adorned by revered Shri Dixit, Shri Deokule, Shri Chandwadkar and Shri Lohgaonkar from Trimbakeshwar.
